Rumor: Columbia's Lee C. Bollinger Drafts Eulogy for Jerusalem Shooter

There is a rumor circulating on the Internet and other venues that Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger is drafting a eulogy that he would like read to commemorate the Palestinian terrorist who earlier this week killed 8 Jewish students in Jerusalem.

Bollinger has a well-established record of honoring terrorists and dismissing their victims.  In this instance, we have heard, Bollinger believes that Israel acted prematurely in stopping the shooting spree of killer Alaa Abu Dhein, a resident of East Jerusalem.

                                                                                                       -----------------------------------------------------

"Couldn't we have learned more about the mind of a terrorist if Israel had not shot Alaa in cold blood?" a draft transcript of Bollinger's eulogy reportedly says.  "Can we really just shut down Alaa's free speech rights just because he is a heartless murderer?" Bollinger's text asks.

Indeed, Bollinger invited Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak on campus on September 24, 2007, even though A-Jad has ordered the deaths of many of his own citizens for being gay, or a woman, or for disrespecting Allah.  "Just because you are the devil incarnate, doesn't mean that students and professors can't gain from asking you tough questions," Bollinger has reportedly said.

Bollinger believes that when Alaa, himself only 20, began shooting innocent students at Jerusalem's Merkaz Harav Yeshiva, the Palestinian gunman was merely expressing his god-given first amendment rights.  After all, think of the oppressed Palestinians who have full citizenship in East Jerusalem, unlike those damn Jews who can't even visit Arab countries, much less become full citizens.

Sources who claim to be close to Bollinger said he would welcome the opportunity to eulogize Alaa before a global television audience and to denounce violence at the same time.

Reports that Bollinger hung a Hamas flag inside his office after learning of the Jerusalem shootings have been dismissed by reliable sources, although the rumor seems hard to stop given Bollinger's obvious sympathies.
